the straight facts of the training clash
By: j | January 21st, 2009It astonishes me how some items are reported and yet I suspect in the never ending need to supply “fresh content” the daily rags feel a need to print any morsel of information they can find. Unfortunately due to the way news feeds work, some very questionable journalistic efforts spread like wild-fire.
Such is the case with a clash between Andy Carroll and Charles N’Zogbia on the training pitch. Following a late challenge, a few punches were thrown and players were separated.
The “story”, if you can call it that, should have ended there. It doesn’t have legs and while it was bantered about that Newcastle was “crisis” with in-fighting, to consider it as such is an adventure in so-called journalistic presentation.
Dispelling this Joe Kinnear told the “Evening Chronicle: that the matter is closed and is of no concern:
”It was just handbags and it has been blown out of all proportion. I can’t stop players being passionate, and wouldn’t want to. I won’t be taking any action.
”It was a very intense, excellent training session, as we always have at the club. It was a fiery session. There was a late challenge and a reaction to it. The players were working to the max – it was as simple as that.”
Contrary to popular notions, this is a highly competitive sport where you’re really not skipping around in practice with big happy smiling faces. With a club fighting for points as Newcastle, you want to have a fighting spirit and if they aren’t aggressive you have a bigger problem. Although you certainly don’t want players fighting amongst themselves, it isn’t reason for alarm and the slightest concern. However if you want a problem to be concerned of, consider how a player like Charles N’Zogbia, who has publicly lobbied to leave the club, still has a major role.

They did stop training, so it must have been more than just handbags.

Oh please, so they had a tiff. England newspapers are a joke and anyone who plays knows this happens. “handbags” – I like that one

sharp: I agree completely and I resisted even posting mention of it because I felt so little of it. Unfortunately after the story spread so much I felt I had to comment on it.
Thank you for dropping by.
