someone needs to tell Joe
By: j | December 6th, 2008With the January transfer window set to open, Joe Kinnear is looking for Mike Ashley to fund £12m in purchases.
Per an interview in the Mirror, the Newcastle manager said:
“We can do something about it. We have got to stay in the league and we can have a good cup run. The point I made was that he can’t lose from that investment. You ain’t going to lose. You’ll only gain from it.
“I would like two or three players. I have given them the prices. I told them two players who cost £6million each. If we get those players in we will be smokin’.
“Mike was fine with it. Fine. We are still banging on the door. Instead of cash, one club indicated they’d come for one of our players. An exchange would leave us stronger in one area and weaker in another. It would be a straight swap. I’m not sure we’d benefit from losing another player.”
I appreciate Joe Kinnear’s efforts and wishes to improve the club but it would be a tremendous surprise if the club made a new investment of that magnitude given the intent to sale and more directly the overall financial health of the parent company. The only possible option of this would be with players coming from clubs were extended payment and incentive options would be available but of-course this is highly risky proposition.
