Per Ciljan Skejelbred on the way?
By: j | July 9th, 2008
I have to say I feel a trace (or maybe a smidgen) uncomfortable discussing the possible transfer of Rosenborg midfielder Per Ciljan Skejelbred to Newcastle. Not to throw a wrench into the world publishing machine but my issue with this is that it is being reported on the actual Newcastle web-site referencing a report in the Guardian that states that the club has been watching him “but have not made a bid for the 21-year-old”.
So where do I start with this in responsible blogging? Well first of all, a club noting rumours of what others are saying about the club itself is a bit (far more than a trace and much more that a smidgen) peculiar because it is a rumour discussing your own activity in the third person. I’m sorry but what’s more ironic than a press release stating a rumour about your own activities that might not be accurate. Moving beyond that point, given that they have been following his play but have yet to make an offer, why precisely are we to assume that constitutes interest?
Well, lets throw caution to the wind and just assume he “might” very-well likely be on the list of possible targets and if so the twenty-one year old Midfielder has a superb resume with the club, country and considered by many as one of the top young prospects in Europe. He spurned an offer at sixteen from Liverpool but has since stated that he would welcome the opportunity to join Newcastle. So hopefully the next report we’ll hear of Per is from the club making a concrete offer.
Now if you excuse me I have to write a blog entry about a team that I cannot identify that is interested in signing a unnamed (and aging) blogger to spear-head their attack.

His favorite English club is Newcastle f.y.i. and he is really a goodp player. He certainly will be more steady a player then Nicky Butt or Joey Barton ever was.

I agree with you totally but do you think any of the reporting that is based upon gives us an indication he is actually going to be at Newcastle?

No, but do you think any of the reporting on the Ronaldo saga means he will end in Madrid? While I agree with your contempt for the football media and there over exuberance in fabricating transfer gossip, I think it is fun to sift through what is true and what is not. Its part of being a blogger, and while its strange for Newcastle to post speculative reports on its website, does that not lend the reports credence? If they watched the guy play, they are interested even a little.

It certainly does promote more fan involvement doesn’t it and it is definitely fun. However I’m concerned also with accuracy and I just found the irony of posting rumours of your own squad transfers a trace unusual. Of course the underlying point is that it is fun and gets you more involved. As it relates to Per, I’m hopeful he actually is on the list and the mention of him was a precursor to his signing.
Of course with Ronaldo and the coverage of his Sardinia holiday, it actually meant he is signing with Cagliari : ) sorry, I couldn’t resist. I need to write that as a blog and start the rumour.
