not newsworthy
By: j | July 28th, 2008I purposely didn’t post it because it simply isn’t newsworthy. In-fact, if it was my choice the “situation” would have been dealt completely different but as these things so often go, my wishes on matters of values, ethics and the lessons that sport teaches the children of our world, are forgotten.
Maybe I can call it my “days protest”, my own respect for this extraordinary game and the people of this area but I had no desire to report the release of violent offender from prison simply because he can play Football at a high level. I left that instead to the news agencies and the like, including ones that I have a great deal of professional respect for, that fell far short on an opportunity to teach morality and codes of conduct.
So yes Joey Barton, a repeat violent offender, was released from prison. I’m hopeful that he honestly changes his ways and becomes a great example of turning your life around. That is my sincerest hopes and prayers for him, the community and the people who cling to Newcastle as “their club”.
However in-truth, the lesson that has already been taught to children is the acceptance of violence and condoning this type of behaviour.
There is a beauty in this beautiful game that defies words at times but this isn’t one of them.
