Newcastle v Wigan match preview

Joe Kinnear takes his Magpies for a Boxing Day clash against Wigan riding a six match unbeaten streak, including successive victories over Tottenham and Portsmouth in their last two matches. Clatter about possible relegation around Newcastle has all but disappeared and now sitting twelfth in the table, shaken pride has been restored. For the match Wigan is fully fit but Newcastle are likely without Obafemi Martins and Shola Ameobi who will go through pre-match fitness tests.

Joe Kinnear said of the duo:
“Shola is looking very doubtful.

“He trained lightly this morning but it may be Liverpool when he returns.

“Oba looks more likely for Liverpool now also.
