Newcastle v Man City match preview
By: j | January 27th, 2009The climb from relegation danger took a new turn for Newcastle as both Sunderland and Tottenham won on Tuesday. With Bolton meeting Blackburn today, the Magpies need to squeeze out points at Eastlands or risk falling to the spot just above the drop zone.
Today’s match against Manchester City is layered with drama, first with the possible transfer of Shay Given to the Citizens and now the reported criminal investigation of Robinho.
The criminal situation is quite obviously a matter of utmost importance, far beyond that of any match and it is unclear at this writing how Man City will proceed. Returning to strictly Football matters, with Shay Given, many feel this matter is nearing completion and the long term Newcastle ‘keeper will be moving to Eastlands. Should this actually occur pre-match Tim Krul will step in.
The massive Newcastle injury problems continue and new signing, Danish international Peter Lovenkrands is likely to feature immediately. Ryan Donaldson, Mark Doninger, Nile Ranger, Kazenga LuaLua and Jonny Godsmark continue to impress in the Reserves and are a part of Joe Kinnear’s squad list. Due to the Shay Given situation both Fraser Forster and Tim Krul have been included in the provisional squad.
Enjoy the match and as always I will report on it as it concludes.
