Newcastle v Blackburn match preview

By: j | January 16th, 2009

In the packed bottom half of the Premier League race only five points separate cellar-dwellers West Brom and Newcastle at the eleventh position. While the perch of mid-table is a pleasant vantage for Magpies, Joe Kinnear is more than aware it is far from a steady one. With the club traveling to Ewood Park the drama is as thick as early morn fog as Big Sam Allardyce is now in-charge of the Blackburn Rovers.

Big Sam started his return the Premier League with a resounding victory over Stoke City and as followed it up curmudgeonly draws to Sunderland and Manchester City. Although frustrated with a collapse against Man City that allowed two late goals and gave away the victory, this is decided different club in the last month. Whilst the Rovers fight from relegation will be a long one, his rattling of sabers and pounding of the war-drums has woken his side up and rest assured they will fight the good fight.

On the injury front the home side looks as fresh and ready to go with the return of David Dunn and Paraguayan international Roque Santa Cruz to the lineup. However things are not so delightful to report for Newcastle, as they have a host of long-term injuries and will be looking towards pre-match fitness tests with Andy Carroll and Steven Taylor.

Joe Kinnear will be pressing hard for points in this match as he knows it is critical to gain points against clubs below them in the table. In the maddening race to avoid relegation this is an absolute one to which the Newcastle manager said:

“Our next four games are all against teams that are currently below us in the table so it is a good chance for us to put a bit of distances between them and ourselves.”

Tomorrow is an important step for Newcastle in maintaining its position and standing in its way Sam Allardyce, who relishes the chance to dispose of his former club.

Good god is Xisco starts again…we must get at least a point from this game, if not the three. Allardyce will have his side more than ready to go, you can bet on that. It’s going to be a scrap. If United brings their finishing to this game (unlike the Hull Shitty match), they can come away with all 3. Of course, a lot of that depends on who’s going to be healthy (I like the Carroll-Owen partnership: small and annoying-big and imposing)
