Newcastle loses to Tottenham in Carling Cup
By: j | September 24th, 2008Newcastle lost 2-1 to Tottenham in the League (”Carling”) Cup within a cavernous St James’ Park. While quality of play was certainly less-than desirable, once again I was impressed by the tenacity of play by the Magpies whilst facing a very difficult situation.
The match was lingering on a nil deadlock when ex-Spartak Moscow man Roman Pavlyuchenko was left unmarked and he headed in a Aaron Lennon volley. Jamie O’Hara added the second goal four minutes later and a Michael Owen goal as regulation ended to give the few remaining supporters hope. However it wasn’t to be and Tottenham now advances to the next round.
