Joey Barton survived 45 minutes of reserve action on Tuesday night but Allerdyce admitted that there will need to be more second string action before he is ready for the first team. All in all its good news.
Ab Faye, Emre and Jose Enrique all survived the 90 minutes, with Emre expected to feature this weekend.
Man City fielded a relatively strong side on tuesday but goals from Mark Doninger and Emre saw off a 2-0 advantage from Ashley Grimes and Ched Evans respectively.
It remains to be seen whether or not Barton is as important and influential as he was when he played for City.
