Magpies should not expect Terry Venables
By: j | March 24th, 2009Somewhat misleading, The Sun alluded to Terry Venables coming in to manage the Magpies in Joe Kinnear’s absence.
While the article notes an unnamed club “insider” stating that, “the players have all been talking about how they need someone of real authority to sort it out”, it fails to recognize that Mr. Venables was offered the reigns after the Kevin Keegan debacle in fall, he turned the position down.
While the choice of the former England manager this past fall was a natural, it seems unlikely he would take the position now with the club on the cusp of relegation but equally facing a very dire financial future that questions competitiveness in the upcoming season. Each of these situations are enough to convince the most aggressive of managers to re-consider a possible move and unless their is a significant financial incentive it is very unlikely.

Can you imagine the lads like Jonas and Coloccini saying ‘Thinks aren’t great right now. We need someone with authority! You know who we need? El Tel!’
The Sun comes out with some awful rubbish sometimes, they just jump to conclusions all the time!
