Kevin Keegan resigns

By: j | September 4th, 2008

It’s official, Kevin Keegan has resigned from Newcastle.

He has issued the following statement:

“I’ve been working desperately hard to find a way forward with the directors, but sadly that has not proved possible.”

“It’s my opinion that a manager must have the right to manage and that clubs should not impose upon any manager any player that he does not want.”

He went on to add:

“It remains my fervent wish to see Newcastle United do well in the future and I feel incredibly sorry for the players, staff and most importantly the supporters.”

“I have been left with no choice other than to leave.”

I went update as further information is made available.

Is Poyet in, then? Or do you think they’ll make a run at Bilic?

Crap. Really sad that it ended the way it did.
@James: I don’t think Poyet will do for Toon army. Ashley will probably have to come up with a big name to ease down the angry mob. Bilic would probably do but there’s no way in hell he’s stepping down from Croatian NT before 2010.

I think at this point, MA is obviously unconcerned about the opinions of the fans…I can see him appointing Poyet and letting Gus and Wise run the show together. Either that or he brings in Shearer and we’ll be in the same position we’re in now come January.

Like it or not, the best plan of action at this point may be to let Wise and Poyet play the cards/players theyve drawn. What would the fans have the club do at this point? Hire Shearer?

I got the impression that NUFC fans aren’t very fond of Wise (even before this KK saga). It definitely won’t win popularity points for Ashley if he decides to put Gus&Wise in charge. On the other hand, if he was to hire Shearer (big gamble of course, but so is Poyet I think), he(Ashley) might just get away with it.

But seeing that it’s Newcastle we’re talking about, whatever they choose to do will take us all by surprise anyway.

Shearer. Also (bit off-topic), Mark Knopfler keeps popping back to my playlist for the last hour or so.

“So drive me down to the central station
I hate to leave my river Tyne
For some dawn town that’s God-forsaken
    Goodbye old friend of mine
Although I’ll go where the lady takes me
She’ll never tell what’s in her hand
I do not know what fate awaits me
    Fare thee well, Northumberland”

I was joking about Ruud. Id say Poyet must be about even money, with Shearer, Curbs, and Marcelino rounding out the field

come on newcastle blogger. Are you actually from Newcastle? From your complete lack of any kind of opinion on this issue I’m going to guess you’re from Ohio somewhere.

Sheps - you actually got a laugh out of me on that one.

It’s a bit ironic considering along with a few other bloggers and fans seem to be the only people actually supporting regional development in England. Review my posts because while Wise and company were clamouring to sign new talent, they ignored individuals such as Andy Carroll and of course James Milner. I’m still waiting for someone to actually comment and show they have the mettle to support the game in England.

No Sir, I’m not from Ohio although I do welcome Toon supporters from all over and don’t want anyone to feel uncomfortable. Respectfully, please don’t disparaging comments about anyone or where they’re from. I want every reader to feel welcome, to post their opinion.

Finally if not clearer, I want readers to comment on this situation and express their opinion. Tell me who you think please.
