Jonás Gutiérrez signs long-term deal
By: j | July 4th, 2008
Brilliant news today that Kevin Keegan has inked Argentine national, Jonás Gutiérrez, to a five-year deal, leaving Real Mallorca of Spain for an undisclosed fee. Jonás, who hails from the Roque Sáenz Peña area of Buenos Aires and came up through the superb Vélez Sársfield system, will provide ample pace, tenacity and a creative flourish on the wing for the Magpies. Anxious for his new home, Jonás who turns twenty-five tomorrow, commented “I cannot wait to meet my new team-mates and prove myself to the Newcastle United fans.”
He will join the squad shortly after a brief break and can be expected to be featured prominently in the PSV friendly and of course the Mallorca Summer Cup. I anticipate it won’t be long till he will become a fan favorite at St James’ Park and be recognized as one of the great young talents from Argentina.
Welcome to the team Jonás and Happy Birthday!
