Hertha Berlin in Mallorca
By: j | August 1st, 2008
The Magpies face Hertha Berlin today in their summer getaway in Mallorca they they have attempted to disguise as “training”. This really is quite funny as they left early to “get acclimated” to a weather, just enough of course to spend a bit of time at the hotel pool.
In stranger than fiction news, whilst mentioning that Michael Owen can’t come along for the rigours of training in Shangri La, Kevin Keegan noted he is “best served working on building his fitness at home” and further added that he now has a calf strain after dealing with mumps. This is pure fiction. His training has been minimal and when I say minimal, my evening run-out on the pitch is been more demanding.
On another front Obafemi Martins has rejoined the squad after being on a leave to deal with the passing on his mother. Unfortunately he too won’t see any action as he has a knee injury. He however will remain with the squad.
I know many blogs will become support groups for clubs and I certainly would delight in reporting great news but facts are facts. The situation of not having professional staffing in medical department and off-pitch conditioning should be very clear to any reader and this is one of the areas the club needs to spend its money on. It may not make any headlines and as the club talks about a major signing in the next twenty-four hours, the infrastructure is in dire need of attention.
