Forster secures new deal
By: rich | April 9th, 2008Following on from my post about the Reading/Newcastle game at the weekend and the new emerging talent coming through the ranks at St James, young 20 year old keeper Fraser Forster has secured a new deal at the Toon until 2010.
Forster, who has impressed KK and his staff playing for the reserves managed to acquire massive praise from KK. KK said this week,
Fraser has come on leaps and bounds and could become an outstanding goalkeeper, He has worked extremely hard and I was very keen to get him under contract.”
He also tipped him to become a regular at Under 21 level before the season was out,
We will look for him to continue his development here and there is no reason why he can’t go on to represent his country at Under 21 level.”
With another young keeper Tim Krul impressing on loan at Falkirk before he dislocated his shoulder, we should see both keepers vye for the No1 jersey this season or next.

I don’t mean to start any intercontinental wars here, but I’m not so fond of English goalkeepers at the moment. Here’s hoping FF is different, and that he gets better sooner rather than later.

We have a decent crop. I think faith has to be instilled in a few of them. Problem is, we dont have a long history of quality goalkeepers. Look at the Italians, they have a list as long as your arm and the Spanish and Germans have done well for themselves.
When you look at England’s goalkeeping heritage, you really are struggling after mentioning the hallowed names of Shilton and Banks.
Hopefully we’ll improve but i sincerely doubt it. David James is really the best of a bad bunch.
