Fabricio Coloccini is anxious

By: j | July 29th, 2008

Argentine International Fabricio Coloccini is anxious to complete his move to Newcastle per various reports but has met a serious stumbling block with his present club, Deportivo de La Coruña. The twenty-six year-old defender who came up through the much lauded Argentinos Juniors program and then onto Boca Juniors, is said to be offered a significant pay increase to move to the Magpies.

Per Setanta Sports his agent, Marcelo Lombilla, is banging the war-drums of the all-mighty “Webster Clause” being enacted if the unconfirmed £12m offer from Newcastle is refused. The original valuation by Coruña was €12m (£9.5m approx) and after Newcastle met that offer, it was raised to €14m (its called “bargaining” btw). Fabricio Coloccini has not accompanied Deportivo de La Coruña on their trip to Venezuela in order to conclude this deal.

While there is still work to getting it done, should these reports be accurate (big assumption), both parties are close-enough to get this deal done. Of course that is a big assumption and €14m acquisition will likely need to be off-set with a sale by Newcastle. That being said, Fabricio will be a great signing for the Magpies.
