Emancipation
By: j | July 30th, 2008
I’ve read a lot about “slavery” recently in the Football world and while I know sadly many players forgo their education to pursue Football as a professional, there really isn’t an excuse for comments relating “slavery” to Football contracts. There is absolutely nothing in common with slavery in the life of a professional Footballer and its fairly disgusting to hear authorities, players or the always trashy agent make claims that the modern player is “enslaved”. Yet emancipation seems to be on everyones mind now in the sleazy side of the Football business and luckily for him, within the digital world where everything is recorded forever, Fabricio Coloccini’s agent, Marcelo Lombilla, can add his name to the list of idiots who liken a employment contract to slavery.
Proving idiocy has no boundaries in this world of ours and speaks many languages, Marcelo Lombilla, told El Ideal Gallego, in response to the protracted negotiations that “slavery was abolished years ago”. Mr. Lombilla is anxious to move his client from Deportivo de La Coruña to Newcastle and as he described, not for the glory of playing for Newcastle, to thrill the fans and be a part of the heritage but for the money. Lets not make it something that it isn’t, you want the cash and Mr. Lombilla wants his cut too.
So Mr. Lombilla why don’t you prove you are a business man capable of negotiating and come to the table with a offer that would tighten the reported €2m difference. Say a compromise in which you reduce your commission and fees? This is a simple situation where your clients club is looking to maximize their return on investment and their is nothing wrong about it. Equally so, if they go to high, well, pull the deal and walk away. Situations like this are ripping the Football world apart and transfer prices are skyrocketing to ridiculous prices. Emancipate the game from people like this.

Player agents inflation of the transfer market is no different then hedge fund managers driving the price of gas up with wild speculation. But you never hear about that in the news…
