Andy Carroll helps to save a draw

The strike force combination of Michael Owen and Andy Carroll continued to strengthen as they each scored leading towards a 2-2 draw against West Ham.

After a flurry of attacking intent the Magpie’s finally broke through nineteen minutes after the start as José Enrique provided Michael Owen the ball outside the box, to which he turned and fired a low shot on edge of the box. Ten minutes later the match was even as Wales international Craig Bellamy displayed incredible touch as he got on the edge of a Scott Parker through ball and chipped the ball delicately chip over Shay Given. Ten minutes after the break the Hammers took the lead on a brilliant long ball from Hérita Ilunga to Carlton Cole, with the striker controlling perfect perform driving the ball to the back of the net. Down 2-1, Newcastle hunted for the equalizer and found it with twelve minutes remaining as Andrew Carroll scored his first goal in the Premier League as he rose high to powerfully head in a Damien Duff cross. Both sides had opportunities to add the winner but they were not to come and while the match ended in a draw, it was unquestionably Andy’s day.
