And the Rumors roll on as the Mags are now Connected with PSG Defender David Rozehnal
By: David | June 5th, 2007Something must be in the water or the air, as Newcastle is making another huge move, in an effort to bolster their roster. Sam Allardyce is proving himself to be a very proactive manager, as he is making numerous moves towards signing big name players. It is this kind of action that Newcastle has been missing and will definitely prove to be an asset when the Premiership starts up again.
Thus, it is with great excitement to point out that the Mags are now pursuing PSG defender David Rozehnal. The 26 year old Czech defender has stated that he is very excited about Newcastle’s push for him and would love to join the team. According to BBC Sport,
Czech Republic defender David Rozehnal is keen for a move to Newcastle United, according to his representatives.
The 26-year-old’s club Paris St Germain have yet to hold direct talks with the Magpies, having already rejected a £2.7m bid from Borussia Dortmund.
“David would love to play for Newcastle,” Sport Invest spokesman Eliot Vantil told BBC Sport.
Though not a done deal, it would seem that the Mags are very close to signing him and Allardyce has made a strong push to ensure that Rozehnal will be playing for him next season. Fansfc were quoted as stating,
Magpies boss Sam Allardyce is eager to land the 26-year-old as he looks to rebuild his back four, and has offered the French club a fee of £3.3million.
Rozehnal has been a key member of the PSG back four for the past two years, and Allardyce believes he can add some much needed stability to his back line at St James’ Park.
So what do you guys think about the various deals Allardyce has making. Are we going in the right direction? As with the other posts, more information to come.

Hey it was you guys who rescinded the offer for Rozehnal. But alas if he turns out to be the player he was at PSG, I’ll take being called a thief any day…

This looks to be a very good signing - 26yo with 30 caps for Czech and previously spotted on the Ligue 1 First XI. And the price seems fair too.
I really hate to correct you on this, but there is a minor error in the followng statement: “Sam Allardyce is proving himself to be a very proactive manager, as he is making numerous moves towards signing big name players. It is this kind of action that Newcastle has been missing and will definitely prove to be an asset when the Premiership starts up again.”
What’s been missing Tyneside isn’t the signing of big players but rather the form of the new signees. Some examples from the top of my head: Marcelinho, Tomasson, Guivarch, Kluivert, Bernard, Luque, TITus, Boumsong, Mickey, Duffers, yikes! I guess Martha put is pretty well in her comment on your first post with, “welcome to a world of pain.” It can be tough sometimes to be a Toon fan, but it’ll be worth it when we fill the trophy case. Welcome to the Black and White Army.A little advice: when the Toon’s got you down (like it got me after writing the above list) just remember that at least we’re not mackems or smoggies!!!!
HA’WAY THE LADS!!!

Sean, thanks for the correction. Well as both you and Martha have pointed out this will be quite an interesting journey and learning process….but one that is well worth it. Let us just say that I am prepared for let downs, after covering Chivas USA for the past few months……But as you said at least we are not the mackems or smoggies!
As for Rozehnal, he is described as being, “A tall and pacy centre-half, [who] adds a physical presence to the heart of the defence…” according to the UEFA website.
His stats:
Year Club Games (Goals)
1993 -2003 Sigma Olomouc 72 (2)
2003 - 2005 Club Brugge 50 (1)
2005- Paris Saint-Germain 73 (1)
