I was going to start this post off with a very interesting beginning, or at least maybe a story to get the mood right. But then I began thinking, what better way to start the Newcastle Blog then in the same way as Laurie over at the Galaxy blog. Yet, instead of showing a shift away from “Eurosnobbery” towards an understanding of American soccer, I am going the opposite way. Or at least I am going to try and embrace my roots.

As you most likely know, I am also the author of the Chivas USA blog on The Offside. But what you most likely did not know is that I am also 1/8th British, surprising isn’t it? It kind of threw me off track a few weeks ago, when I found out that some of my ancestors were from England, but it also explains why I like a good Pint and some fish and chips. This really has nothing to do with soccer (for now, do not get me wrong, I am not going to spend the coming weeks doing self analysis and forgoing the reporting of the team), rather it is a personal journey into the understanding of one’s heritage and the embracing of a team. This first post is the launching pad…

Well now that I have made a total embarrassment of myself and most likely confused the hell out of you, I would like to personally welcome you to the Newcastle Blog on The Offside!

When I first started watching soccer, the only British team I knew of was Manchester United. They were the most well known team in the States and I was a soccer virgin that did not know the ways of this sport. Yet as I began to watch more soccer, I realized there were more teams out there and the history of each team ran very deep. Thus after three years of watching soccer religiously I have expanded my soccer knowledge and as such, I have taken on the task of writing about Newcastle United. So join me in my journey of embracing my heritage, becoming a Newcastle United fan and watching the Mags dismantle that hated Sunderland team. Oh, I will also throw in some news and analysis too.

E I O E I O
Up the Premier League we go,
When we get to Europe,
This is what we’ll sing,
We are Geordies, super Geordies,
Robson is our King.

If you want to get to heaven when you die,
If you want to get to heaven when you die,
Wear a Black and White Bonnet,
With Newcastle written on it,
if you want to gett o heaven when you die.

We are the Mags ,we are the Mags,
We are, we are, we are The Mags.
